Il paese di Civitella Alfedena, situato nel cuore del Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzo, è il punto di partenza per escursioni nei luoghi più interessanti, per i sentieri che si snodano tra faggete secolari e pinete dell'autoctono Pinus Nigra, esemplare di pino nero che cresce solo in poche zone, e conducono, tra le altre mete, all'incredibile scenario della Camosciara dove, come suggerisce il nome, è possibile ammirare esemplari di camoscio d'Abruzzo, definito dagli studiosi in camoscio più bello del mondo. Per i più fortunati è probabile un incontro con l'orso bruno Marsicano, mentre chiunque può ammirare esemplari di lupo e di lince in semi libertà.

The village of Civitella Alfedena lies in the heart of the Abruzzo National Park. It is a convenient starting-point for trails that wind though age-old forests of beech trees and some fine stands of the rare native black pine. Close by is the breathtaking scenery of the Camosciara where, as its name suggests, you can admire the most beautiful chamois in the world. Sightings of wolves and lynxes living in semi-captivity just outside the village are frequent, and with a bit of luck you might encounter one of the park's 50 Marsican brown bears.
